From Design to Delivery: A Real Story Behind Custom Personalized Drumsticks
Introduction
In the world of musical instruments, customization is more than just a service—it’s a collaboration. Every personalized product carries not only a logo, but also a story, a vision, and a relationship between supplier and customer.
Today, we want to share a real case about custom personalized drumsticks made from American hickory, highlighting both the creative process and the challenges that can arise in international business.

The First Inquiry: A Message from Congo
On March 17th, we received a message via WhatsApp from a customer based in Congo. His request was clear and concise:
“I need you to personalize drumsticks, hickory.”
He specified the sizes and quantities:
- 6 pairs of 5A drumsticks
- 6 pairs of 2B drumsticks
And confirmed:
“You can customize for me 12 pairs American hickory including 6 pairs 2B and 6 pairs 5A.”
We agreed quickly and asked him to provide his logo and customization requirements.
From Idea to Design: Building a Brand Together
Interestingly, the customer did not have a finalized design. Instead, he said:
“Just have a logo… make it professional and attractive, also for the packaging.”
He later sent a simple reference and added:
“I’ll show you a simple example but I would like you to make it more professional.”
At this stage, our role went beyond manufacturing—we became part of his brand-building process.

Multiple Design Iterations — Completely Free

We immediately assigned our design team to work on his project.
First Round
We presented the initial design.
Client response:
“I don’t like it at all.”
No problem. We started again.
Second Round
A completely new design direction was created.
Still not perfect.

Multiple Rounds Later
We continued refining—all design work was provided free of charge. We never asked for payment during this stage.
Eventually, after several revisions, the client chose one design.

Fine-Tuning the Details
Once the main design was selected, the client requested adjustments:
- Logo position change
“I really love it but I would just like to push back to where I just mentioned, that’s where it belongs.”
- Font style update
“And the writing (drum sticks) must take this style like Italic.”
Our designer updated everything accordingly.
Client feedback:
“Okay good job.”

One More Revision…
Just when we thought everything was finalized, the client came back with another request:
“I really appreciate your work… just try to add some text there that I mentioned ‘American hickory’.”
Once again, we revised the design and sent it for confirmation.
This level of flexibility reflects our commitment:
👉 We don’t just produce—we perfect.

Moving Forward: Sample Production

After final approval, the client requested:
- 12 pairs of samples
We immediately arranged production and prepared shipment.
The client also provided a delivery address.
At this point, everything followed a standard workflow.
The Challenge: Sample Payment Issue
However, after production was completed, we encountered a problem:
👉 The sample fee was not paid.
When we followed up, the client responded:
He would only pay after receiving the goods.
This created a difficult situation.
Our Position as a Supplier
Custom projects are fundamentally different from standard orders:
- They require multiple design revisions
- They involve dedicated designer time
- They include custom production costs
- They cannot be resold easily
In this case:
- We completed numerous design iterations
- We never charged for design services
- We moved forward to production quickly
All of this was done in good faith.
Why Advance Payment Matters
For customized products like personalized drumsticks:
✔ Design = Time investment
✔ Samples = Real production cost
✔ Custom items = Non-resellable
That’s why industry practice is clear:
👉 Payment is confirmed after design approval, before production.
This ensures fairness for both sides.
A Message to Our Customers
We truly value every customer and every collaboration.
We are always willing to:
- Offer free design support
- Make multiple revisions
- Help build your brand from scratch
But we also hope for:
👉 Honesty and mutual respect
We are still waiting for the sample payment from this order.
Conclusion
This story is not about conflict—it’s about understanding the reality behind customization.
Behind every pair of personalized drumsticks, there is:
- Creativity
- Communication
- Patience
- Trust
And most importantly — partnership.
